Permanent Residence

Express Entry


Express entry is an immigration program which helps skilled experienced immigrants to settle down in Canada as permanent residents. This program is categorized into three economic programs. 


  • Federal Skilled Trade : This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.


  • Federal Skilled Worker : The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.


  • Canadian Experience Class : The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.


The structure ranks the candidates as showed by Nationality, Age, Language ability,

 Education, Work experience etc. and they choose the best profiles of candidates.



Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)


Canada has total 13 Provinces and territories which has their own immigration programs (exception of Quebec) called PNPs. This program nominates the candidates who wish to apply their permanent residency. Each PNP has at least one immigration stream that is aligned with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system.


The Different Nominee programs for each provinces are a follows:


  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)  


  • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)  


  • British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)  


  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)  


  • New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)  


  • Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)  


  • Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)


  • Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)



Parent/ Grandparent Sponsorship

If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident you might be eligible to sponsor your Parents and grandparents to come to Canada and live with you permanently.Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada changed the system for Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship in 2017 from first-come, first-served to a lottery.


In order to be eligible to sponsor one’s parents and grandparents to become a permanent resident under the Family Class, applicants must be:


  1. At least 18 years old.
  2. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.



If you sponsor your parents and grandparents to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you must:


  • Meet certain income requirements.
  • Support that person and their dependants financially.
  • Meet the Minimum income requirement for this program by submitting notices of assessment issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) in support of their sponsorship.
  • Sponsors must also demonstrate they have met the minimum necessary income level for three consecutive years. If married or in a common-law relationship, the income of both persons can be included; and
  • The sponsor and the sponsored relative must sign a sponsorship agreement that commits the sponsor to provide financial support for the sponsored person for up to 20 years.



Spousal Sponsorship/ PR

Spousal Sponsorship must be sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident either inside or outside Canada by the spouse, common-law or conjugal partner. Once application is approved authorities will issue the applicant’s spouse Visa and confirmation of permanent residence.

Applicant once they land in Canada before the expiry of their visa will become permanent resident. For the applicants inside Canada, once the application is approved their status will change from temporary to permanent and also have the option of applying open work permit while the application is in process. Applicant outside Canada has the option of applying visitor visa to meet the loved one.


Sponsor Eligibility & Minimum Income Requirements

You can become a sponsor if you are:

  1. A Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a permanent resident,
  2. At least 18 years old.
  3. Living in Canada:
    • If you’re a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when your sponsored relative becomes a permanent resident.
    • You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside of Canada.

You must also be able to show that you can provide basic needs for:

  1. yourself,
  2. your spouse or partner,
  3. your spouse or partner’s dependent child(ren) (if applicable).
  4. your dependent child(ren) (if you’re sponsoring only your dependent child).

Note: In most cases, there is no low-income-cut-off (LICO) for spouse, partner or dependent child sponsorships. However, if either a spouse or partner you’re sponsoring has as dependent child who has dependent children of their own, or a dependent child you are sponsoring has a dependent child of their own, you must meet a minimum LICO score, which is determined by the Canadian government each year. If you must meet LICO requirements, you must include a Financial Evaluation (IMM 1283) formwith your application.


You may not be able to sponsor if you…

  1. Signed an undertaking for a previous spouse or partner and it hasn’t been three years since they became a permanent resident,
  2. Receive social assistance for a reason other than disability,
  3. Previously sponsored someone and did not pay back any social assistance that they received while the undertaking was in place.
  4. Are in default on an immigration loan or a performance bond.
  5. Did not pay court-ordered alimony or child support.
  6. Have declared bankruptcy which has not been discharged.
  7. Were convicted of
    • An offense of a sexual nature,
    • A violent crime,
    • An offense against a relative that caused bodily harm or
    • Threatened or attempted to commit any of the above
      offenses—depending on the nature of the offense, how long ago it happened, and if you received a pardon.

  1. Were previously sponsored as a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner and became a permanent resident of Canada less than five years ago,
  2. Are under a removal order,
  3. Are in a penitentiary, jail, reformatory or prison,
  4. Have already applied to sponsor your current spouse or partner and haven’t received a decision.



Entrepreneur/ Investor Program

Entrepreneur Immigration – Base Category

Intended for experienced entrepreneurs who intend to establish new businesses or take over and grow existing businesses in B.C. 


Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot

Working with regional communities, this pilot is intended to attract entrepreneurs to participating regional communities to establish new businesses that align with the communities’ economic development priorities.


Strategic Projects


For foreign corporations that intend to establish a subsidiary or branch office in B.C. that strategically aligns with their core business. 


Application Process :


1 Preparation & Research


In order to apply to the EI – Base Category, you must first determine your eligibility based on the category requirements. You are encouraged to conduct an exploratory visit to British Columbia to learn about business opportunities, the local market, and the best community for you to establish your business.


2 Registration to the BC PNP

Create a profile and submit an online registration to the BC PNP. The registration includes details about your work and/or business experience, education, language ability, your net worth, and information about your proposed business in British Columbia. After your registration is scored, the BC PNP will invite the highest-scoring registrants to submit full applications to the BC PNP. Registrations are typically scored within six weeks. If invited to apply, you will then have four months from the date of your invitation to submit your application.


3 Application to the BC PNP

Submit a complete application to the BC PNP. You may be invited to attend an in-person interview in Vancouver, B.C. to discuss details of your application. If your application is approved, you must sign a performance agreement that outlines all of the requirements you must meet in order to be nominated. Applications are typically assessed within four months. If your application is approved, the BC PNP will issue you a letter of confirmation (i.e. a work permit support letter) so you may apply for a work permit to IRCC and come to B.C. to implement your business plan.


4 Business Establishment (Work Permit) Period

After obtaining a work permit, you can begin to implement your business plan, make your investments, and create jobs. Your spouse or common-law partner may apply for an open work permit.


5 Nomination

After you meet the terms and conditions of your performance agreement, you must submit a Final Report to the BC PNP. If the BC PNP determines you have met the terms and conditions of your performance agreement, you will be nominated for permanent residence. Final Reports are typically assessed within four months.


6 Application for Permanent Residence

You, including your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children (if applicable), may then apply to IRCC to become permanent residents of Canada under the Provincial Nominee class
